Re: Gaz' Cav.
I have learned the hard way about using non o.e. crank seals. Ive redone the rear one and looks like I need to do the front one. Do you still have a lot to do before ypu drop in the XE?

Re: Gaz' Cav.
if you have a chance before it gets dropped in you should clean up and paint the block!

Re: Gaz' Cav.
the pretty top end sort of "shows up" the rest of the engine. Get it cleaned while you have the easy access

Re: Gaz' Cav.
After seeing how much nicer the gearchange was on turbodans car after replacing the linkage rod ive now got my own on the way
viewtopic.php?p=26717#p26717
See turbodans progress thread for a how2

Not much to report otherwise.
After all the badgering i might paint the block for a little peace, ive got enough tubs of hammerite from over the years.

Re: Gaz' Cav.
The gear linkage rod replacement sounds like a good plan. I may have to invest

Re: Gaz' Cav.
I changed all the little bushes ,washers etc on the Cav and Astra, but not the rod. Doing the little bits with good drop of grease did make a big diffrance. Ill have to check out the ball bit in the rod now to see how worn thay are.Could make it even better after reading this.

I also changed every rod/bush and anything else i could change but it still wasn't perfect. Then I got the rod and it was spot on after fitting that, and looking at the old one you can see how badly worn it was compared.
Re: Gaz' Cav.
Ok so ive not done much but ive stripped the 4 doors i got off terry down ready for paint, they should be painted before Christmas.
Changed a few trim bits for ones in better condition but not much else really.

Re: Gaz' Cav.
well the doors were painted and it was one of those things but there was a hell of a lot of reaction so they need to be flatted and painted again

Re: Gaz' Cav.
Well i did a hour or so snow clearing and then put a couple of hours on the xe.
Fitted the speedo drive (as it had gone awol out of the "new" f20) a new release bearing and put the box on, with a bit of brake cleaner on the splines of the input shaft (its liquid and it doesn't leave a residue once it evaporates so its ideal) it slipped on nicely. Fitted the dizzy tps and all the vac and breather pipes the airflow meter, giving everything a clean as i went, found an xe throttle cable so got that fitted, still need to find 1 more sfi box bolt but its about it will turn up, its nearly ready for going in, im trying to get as much done as i can before fitting just to get make life easier.
gave the block its first coat of black and leaving it to dry over Christmas its slowly getting there.
